Isuzu Motors India Private Limited, the Japanese automobile maker and global diesel engine expert, today opened its first showroom in Chennai at Ambattur Industrial Estate, the upcoming IT and industrial hub of Chennai. Spanning across an area of 30,000 sq. ft., the Chennai showroom is a 3S set-up in which Isuzu will offer sales, service and spare parts under one roof. Isuzu currently has two vehicles in India – a sports utility vehicle MU-7 and pick-up truck D-Max. The bookings for both the vehicles will start from December 11, 2013. The MU-7 is priced at Rs. 22.3 lakh – BS4 variant and 22 lakh BS3 variant (ex-showroom Chennai) and D-Max is priced at Rs. 6.6 lakh.
The new showroom marks the beginning of initial growth phase for Isuzu Motors in India. To kick off this phase, Isuzu rolled out its first India-made, BS4 compliant variant of its sports utility vehicle MU-7. In this phase, the company plans to beef up its national presence to 60 outlets by end of 2015-16 across India. Out of these, the company will open 5 dealerships in South in Madurai, Tirupati, Vishakhapatnam, Bangalore, Cochin by January 2014.

Isuzu has a contract manufacturing agreement with Hindustan Motors (HML) under which HML is contract assembling CKD kits of Isuzu’s sports utility vehicle MU-7 and pick-up truck D-Max, at its Thiruvallur, Chennai plant. Isuzu’s own manufacturing plant is likely to be operational by 2015-16. The company has earmarked a total investment of Rs. 3000 crores for this plant which is expected to have a capacity of 1,00,000 to 1,20,000 units once fully operational. Isuzu signed a MoU with the Government of Andhra Pradesh earlier this year – to set up a LCV manufacturing facility at Sri City, Hyderabad.

Isuzu Motors India Private Limited, a subsidiary of Isuzu Motors Limited, Japan was established in August 2012. Isuzu Motors, in the next phase of its project has started the assembly of CKD units in contract manufacturing with Hindustan Motors Limited.
