ISUZU Motors Ltd, Japan receives CODISSIA delegation from India.

Isuzu Motors Ltd, Japan received a delegation of members from CODISSIA (The Coimbatore District Small Industries Association) at ISUZU’s Fujisawa plant. The delegation, which was on an industrial visit to Japan, comprised about 35 medium to large component manufacturers from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The delegation was led by Mr. Rajendran, Managing Partner at Bestomech Industries and was welcomed by Mr. Uehara – Senior Vice President and Head of Fujisawa Plant.


The CODISSIA delegation spent an entire day at ISUZU Fujisawa plant, and their plant visit also included an exhaustive explanation of ISUZU production systems. ISUZU also shared its India business plan with the visiting delegation.


Mr. Rajendran, said,”The visiting team found the tour to be highly informative, and the delegation was very impressed with the new technologies they saw in the automotive manufacturing processes at ISUZU” He added that, “We have a lot of messages to be taken from this visit and appreciate the good hospitality during this visit.”


Mr. Kannan, COO – G. Ganeshan Engineering Works said,” Deeply understood that “Quality” has been ISUZU’s top priority. The plant’s whole system was amazing. It was great learning for us.”


Isuzu Motors India Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Isuzu Motors Ltd, Japan has recently started discussions with auto component suppliers in India, as part of its vendor development program. This visit was a part of the relationship building exercise with the component suppliers in India.


Mr. Takashi Kikuchi – President, Isuzu Motors India Ltd,” We have started discussions with the Indian component manufacturers, and are very satisfied with the quality of their products and processes. When we start our manufacturing plant in India by 2016, we expect to have a localization of 70%. After seeing the capabilities of the Indian suppliers, we are confident that we will be able to take the localization content to almost 100% in a short period of time from start of operations”


He added that,” Coimbatore is also an important market for our DMAX range of pickup trucks due to the industrial and agricultural activity in and around the city. We started the first dealership in India in Coimbatore, and the first DMAX pickup truck customer in India is also from Coimbatore.”


DMAX pickup trucks which have been in selling globally for more than 40 years. This year the 5th generation DMAX pickup truck crossed 1 Mn in exports from Thailand, where Isuzu has the largest pickup truck manufacturing location. Thailand is also the largest 1 Tn pickup truck market in the world, where ISUZU is among the top players.


Isuzu Motors will set up its own manufacturing facility at Sri City, Nellore District Andhra Pradesh. Earlier this year, Isuzu signed an MoU with the AP Govt. to acquire 107 acres of land for setting up the manufacturing plant. The plant, expected to be ready by 2016, will have a capacity of 120,000 units. After meeting domestic demand, it will also cater to the exports market. While this plant is being setup Isuzu has arranged a contract manufacturing agreement with Hindustan Motors Ltd (HML) HML will contract manufacture ISUZU pickup trucks and sports utility vehicles at its factory in Thiruvallur, located strategically about 70 kms from ISUZU’s upcoming dedicated manufacturing plant.
