  • 1916

    Tokyo Ishikawajima Shipbuilding and Engineering Co. Ltd. and Tokyo Gas and Electric Industrial Co. initiated plans to build automobiles.

  • 1922 Dec

    Tokyo Ishikawajima Shipbuilding and Engineering Co. Ltd. completed the first domestically produced Woleseley, model A-9.

  • 1928 Dec

    Developed the “Sumida” CL model, which offered excellent power and efficient fuel consumption.

  • 1934 Jul

    The truck, manufactured up to Ministry of Trade and Industry standards was named “Isuzu”.

  • 1936 Mar

    Developed Japan’s first air-cooled diesel engines, the DA6 and the DA4.

  • 1937 Apr

    Tokyo Automobile Industries Co. Ltd., the predecessor of Isuzu Motors Ltd. was established with a capital of one million yen.

  • 1959 Aug

    TL 2-ton payload compact truck, ELF was unveiled.

  • 1961 Jan

    Unveiled the TK model 1.75-ton payload compact truck, ELFIN.

  • 1963 Jun

    Unveiled the KR compact truck, WASP.

  • 1972 Feb

    Released the KB 1-ton payload compact truck, FASTER. Begins exporting KP trucks to the United States.

  • 1979 May

    Launched the 1-ton four-wheel drive truck, FASTER - RODEO.

  • 1981 Aug

    Introduced the compact four-wheel drive vehicle, RODEO BIGHORN.

  • 1989 Apr

    A new type of recreational vehicle, the MU, was introduced in Japan and the United States.

  • 1995 Dec

    Launched MU-WIZARD, a sports-utility vehicle in Japan and the United States.

  • 1997 Mar

    VehiCROSS, an all-round sports-utility vehicle, was introduced in Japan.

  • 2002 May

    Isuzu Pickup underwent a complete makeover in Thailand and became the D-Max, through the collaborative efforts of Isuzu and General Motors.

  • 2013 Dec

    Launched its SUV MU-7 in India.

  • 2014 May

    Isuzu D-Max SPACE CAB and SINGLE CAB Flat Deck were launched in India.

  • 2016 Feb

    Launched Isuzu D-Max V-Cross, India’s first Adventure Utility Vehicle.

  • 2016 Apr

    Isuzu Motors India manufacturing plant at Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, was inaugurated.

    Launched Made in India ISUZU D-MAX Regular Cab
